Steve Zimmerman of Restaurant Realty Company is proud to announce the sale of Passionfish Restaurant in Pacific Groves, Monterey County’s first officially green restaurant. 

Steve Zimmerman, recently sold Passionfish Restaurant in Pacific Grove. Cindy and Ted Walter are the sellers of this restaurant, the first officially green restaurant in Monterey County. Cindy grew up in the Carmel Valley, where her father was a hand line fisherman. She met Ted in Salinas where he had opened his first restaurant, Teddy’s on Main. She worked nearby and often when she passed by, Ted would wave at her. Eventually she went in for lunch, and he served her table. She then applied for a job as a host, and as she put it, “The rest is history.”

Ted had trained in classic French cooking. This influenced his early cooking, but over time, he followed his interests in the rapidly evolving world of global cuisines. Passionfish sets an example with a strict policy of sustainable and environmentally friendly purchasing and has an ever-changing menu that features the freshest sustainable seafood, slow cooked meats, farm fresh organic greens and delectable house-made desserts. All are complimented with a Wine Spectator award winning wine list which is priced reasonably.

The Walters philosophy in creating Passionfish is there is an art to food, and an art to life, and behind both is passion. That’s why they created Passionfish. They believe in the vivid flavors of fresh, local ingredients which they select daily from small farms and farmers market’s, and from sustainable farms and fisheries. In the past decade, Passionfish has won annual awards from James Beard, from the Monterey County Weekly, from the Monterey Herald, from Zagat, and from the Carmel Pine Cone.

The buyers Celal and Meral Alpay are also owners of another well know fish restaurant in Pacific Grove called Fishwife which offers a menu of award-winning American cuisine with a Caribbean accent. They have been in business since 1986. Building on their successful stewardship of Fishwife, the owners are now poised to expand their culinary horizons.
